Everything you need to know about editing PDF files directly in your browser. From adding text and images to annotating, redacting, and reorganising pages — without installing any software.
No software needed. Everything runs in your browser.
Text editing is the most common reason people reach for a PDF editor. Whether you need to correct a typo in a contract, update a date on a form, or add a paragraph of instructions to an existing document, a browser-based editor lets you do it in seconds — no Adobe Acrobat licence required.
RedaktPDF detects the fonts already present in your PDF so new text you add blends in naturally. Select from over 30 built-in fonts, set a custom size, and pick any colour from the palette. Click anywhere on the page to place a text box, type your content, then click away to confirm. The text is rendered as a real PDF text layer — not an image overlay — so it stays sharp at every zoom level.
For more advanced text work, the Add Text to PDF tool is purpose-built for adding and styling new text blocks. If you need to correct or replace existing content in a live PDF, the PDF editor gives you full access to the complete editing suite in one place.
A few things to keep in mind: because PDFs store text as positioned glyphs rather than flowing paragraphs, re-flowing a large block of existing text is not the same as editing a Word document. For best results, add new text boxes alongside existing content rather than trying to splice into the middle of an embedded paragraph. For covering old content before adding new text, use the whiteout tool described in the redaction section below.
Adding images to a PDF is useful in a surprisingly wide range of situations: inserting a signature scan, adding a company logo to a report, placing a diagram into a technical document, or attaching an annotated screenshot to a review. Whatever the use case, the goal is always the same — the image should look intentional, not pasted in.
The Add Image to PDF tool lets you drag an image file directly onto the page or use the file picker to browse your device. Once placed, you can drag the image to reposition it and resize it by dragging the corner handles. Supported formats include JPEG, PNG, and WebP. The image is embedded directly into the PDF file rather than linked externally, so recipients will see it regardless of where they open the document.
For signature workflows, the most reliable approach is to scan or photograph your signature on plain white paper, crop it tightly, save it as a PNG with a transparent background, and insert it over the signature line. This produces a clean result without an obvious white box obscuring the form.
Images are placed on top of the existing PDF content as a new layer. This means they can cover underlying text — useful for redaction, but worth being aware of if you are placing a semi-transparent logo. For pixel-accurate positioning, zoom into the page before dropping the image to get finer control over placement.
PDF annotation tools are indispensable for document review workflows. Highlighting a passage to draw attention to it, underlining a key clause in a contract, or striking through outdated text to signal it needs to be removed — these are tasks that come up every day in legal, editorial, academic, and business contexts.
The PDF Annotation Tool supports three core annotation types: highlight (adds a semi-transparent colour wash over selected text), underline (adds a line below selected text), and strikethrough (draws a line through selected text to mark it for deletion). All three are rendered directly into the exported PDF so reviewers using any PDF viewer will see them correctly.
To annotate, select the annotation tool from the toolbar, then click and drag across the text you want to mark. A colour picker lets you choose from common review colours — yellow for highlights, red for critical flags, green for approved passages. You can annotate multiple passages before exporting, and each annotation can be individually selected and deleted if you change your mind.
For teams working on the same document, annotations exported to PDF are preserved when the file is passed between reviewers. Each annotator can add their own marks on top of existing ones, building up a clear visual record of the review cycle. There is no need to print and scan — the annotated PDF can be shared digitally throughout the entire process.
Redaction is the process of permanently removing sensitive information from a document before sharing it. This is not the same as covering text with a black box in a word processor — with a true redaction, the underlying text data is also removed so that it cannot be recovered by selecting the box and deleting it, or by extracting the text layer programmatically.
The Redact PDF tool applies a permanent black fill over selected text areas, removing both the visual text and the underlying PDF text data. This is suitable for sharing documents that contain personal identification numbers, medical information, legal case details, or financial figures that must be hidden from certain recipients.
For lighter use cases — correcting a mistake by covering old content before adding new text, or obscuring a small detail without making it obvious that a redaction has been applied — the PDF Whiteout Tool places a white fill box over the selected area. This effectively erases the visual appearance of that content and lets you place new text on top of it.
If your goal is to remove a specific passage of text without leaving a visible mark, the Remove Text from PDF tool lets you select and delete text elements directly. This is useful for cleaning up watermarks, boilerplate footers, or draft annotations that should not appear in the final version.
Multi-page PDFs often need structural changes: a cover page inserted at the front, a duplicate page removed, a section reordered after review, or a landscape diagram rotated so it reads correctly. Page management operations are separate from content editing but just as important for producing a polished final document.
The PDF Page Organizer shows all pages as thumbnails in a sidebar. Drag a thumbnail to a new position to reorder pages — the change is reflected instantly in the main editor view. To rotate a page, select it and use the rotate controls. To delete a page, hover over the thumbnail and click the delete icon.
Rotation handles PDFs with embedded page orientation correctly. If a scanned document was saved in portrait orientation but the content is landscape (a common scanner artefact), you can rotate the page to the correct reading orientation and the exported PDF will honour that rotation. RedaktPDF's three-space coordinate model ensures that text added to rotated pages is placed and exported correctly — it appears horizontal in the viewer even when the underlying page has a non-standard rotation value.
All page management operations — reorder, rotate, delete — are tracked in the undo stack alongside text and annotation edits. This means you can freely experiment with the page structure and undo any change with Ctrl+Z (or Cmd+Z on Mac), up to 50 steps back.
